30. 06. 2025 Meeting on the results of research on the Imperial crown in Vienna

We are honored to have been invited, along with other experts, to a meeting for presenting and discussing the results of research on the Imperial Crown in Vienna. A team of scientists associated to the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, in whose collections the thousand-year-old crown is located, presented the methods and results of their three-year work. They managed to determine the purity of the gold, identify most of the set gems, and verify the composition and origin of the glass, pearls, and enamels that decorate the crown (you can read details about the methods used and the first results on the website of the Austrian project). The Austrian scientists proceeded – similarly to us in our project – with non-destructive methods and emphasize preventive conservation of this extraordinary object in the form of displaying it in ideal climatic conditions in the Imperial Treasury in the Hofburg, where it is possible to see the crown live. The Imperial Crown is connected to the Great Moravian finds by the jewellery techniques used: filigree, granulation, chasing, and setting of precious stones and glass.
